Harry
Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is the title of the sixth book in the
wildly popular Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling. In September, 2004,
Rowling's official website (www.jkrowling.com) revealed two sentences
of the book to visitors who successfully completed an online game of darts
and were able to crack the code of a virtual safe. Those sentences read:
"He looked rather like an old lion" and "There were streaks
of grey in his tawny hair and his bushy eyebrows; he had keen yellowish
eyes behind a pair of wire-rimmed spectacles and a certain rangy, loping
grace even though he walked with a slight limp." In October, 2004,
Rowling revealed that one of Harry's cohorts would die in Book Six, but
would not reveal which one it would be. Readers can rest assured, however,
that it won't be Harry, since Rowling has stated that her spectacularly
successful sorcerer will make it to the seventh and final book in the
series — although whether or not he survives to adulthood remains to be
seen.
On
December 20, 2004 J.K. Rowling announced that she had completed writing
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, having enjoyed the luxury of having
time to "tinker" with the manuscript while expecting her third
child. The book was released on July 16, 2005.
